Why did I become a Teacher?
My interest in teaching started when I was about twelve years old. A very committed and enthusiastic Physical Education teacher I had in secondary school instilled in me the love for teaching through his dedication. His constant perseverance to teach us not only different sport skills but also to help us grow into valuable individuals was something remarkable. He was not only a good teacher, but he was my role model to become a PE teacher. Moreover, when I was still in secondary school, my mother graduated as a Learning Support Assistant (LSA). The commitment and dedication she showed in her work and the sense of satisfaction she transmitted to me marked my future career.
In addition, I have always loved working with children. I used to help out in several live-ins which we used to organise at our secondary school where we had to be the leaders of diverse groups of children and lead them towards the attainment of a number of objectives. Such experiences further sustained my passion towards teaching. Besides, I love sports and basically my world revolves around different sports. Apart from following diverse sports from all over the world and even attending several sport events here in Malta, I have been training football from the tender age of six years. Furthermore, I used to train athletics from the age of eleven to thirteen. This extensive involvement, passion and dedication towards sports was surely one of the chief motives why I decided to pursue a career in sports and physical activity. When amalgamating these principles regarding sports with the experiences aforementioned, I can affirm that these directed me towards the path of sports and education.
What do I like about being a Teacher?
Personally, I deem teachers to be very important for our society. Teachers have the responsibility to help children develop wholistically to be valued individuals. A teacher’s positive impact on learners will last for a lifetime. In addition he/she has the possibility to show students their significance and worth, therefore boosting their self esteem and laying the ground for better citizens.
Another two features which I really like about being a teacher are satisfaction and having a sense of purpose. As a teacher I have the possibility to work with students of various abilities and through my interventions I can be a key person to enhance students’ skills. Additionally, I can direct them to choose a path where they could feel safe to learn and acquire physical, cognitive and social skills. With my commitment I can lay the ground for a positive learning experience, which will then result in students’ achievements. This will bring along a great sense of satisfaction and pays off one’s hard work, efforts and determination.
